    Hello gents,

After the mourned death of my trusty Amilo m3438, I bought a Amilo PI. I`ll post a review as soon as I can.

However, I need some of the data that was on my old SATA drive. I plugged it in the PI, but all I got was a nice blinking cursor...

Any one got any suggestions on how to retrieve the data? My current plan is to make a USB key bootable, attach a USB HD and try to retrieve like that, but I`d love to hear a better plan.

Your M3438G is dead. What happened to it? Anyway, you might be able to purchase an enclosure so that you can put your HD into it, and be able to use it. Then you can also use your old hard disk as a storage device. Hope this helps.

Yeah, that was plan B. But I was looking for a plan that wouldn`t rampage my heavily plagued wallet even more.

While doing final power measurements the 6600 in my apples-to-apples benchmarks, I accidently unplugged the cable. I can only assume this spaked the voltage on the MoBo, as it never booted again after. A few pretty blue lights, but the rest is dead.

I think there used to be some devices that connected a SATA connection to a USB one. Although, the price might be the same as an enclosure. Try idea A, and if that doesnt work, then see if you could get an enclosure. SATA enclosures are a little more costly than IDE ones, though.

Search ebay for a used one that works or does not, it sounds like you burnt the board on the hdd, find a replacement on ebay and try to switch them. If that does not work, you will have to fine someone who can recover it for you, like http://www.myharddrivedied.com/
just remember that this is expensive, but if it is that important, all I can say is that you should have backed it up on another drive, dvds/ cds, a thumb drive or somewhere else.
