the only OCZ launch I can support will be themselves launching into space, though that may be a disaster as well.

anyways, we'll see what this one can do shortly.

Very intelligent post;keep up the good work.

Maybe you should pilot the launch.

According to Anandtech, it seems to be about 10% slower at peak than the 840 pro but the IO is much more consistent. Hmmm, tough choice this one, more peak performance or better consistency?

As much as I love new tech, it'd be best to revisit these drives in 3-6 months when the early adopters have uncovered all of the major issues and the real world verdict is out.

To me, a sign of a mature company is seeing that they have all the important aspects in balance.

    OCZ is not there yet.

Why? The most glaring concern for me is power use.

Like a 15 year old doing 150 laps around me and getting comparatively nothing done vs. my 1 lap. :)

Not only does excessive power use indicate a company that is taking shortcuts to achieve the performance they are targeting - but it also makes me think (actually; know) that their products will simply not be as robust, compatible or viable (long term) as their competitors products.

I read (can't find it now...) that the OCZ V4 (I think...) gets so hot it disconnects itself from the computer... that is simply unacceptable.

As I mentioned around 2009; anybody - even Intel - could make a top performing SSD if they ignored the power efficiency issue. The difference with OCZ and companies like Intel is that Intel knows when to say 'when'. Just because you can do something, doesn't mean you should.

These drives may be revealed to be great as time goes on. But as-shipped, the only thing that has me interested is the design focus of more 'consistent performance'.

I hope this focus is on the minds of all SSD manufacturers going into 2013.

I saw one fellow got excited about these drives, must be a shareholder in OCZ :twitchy:
