Well, I have had this notebook since about 2003. So far, my Toshiba M55 has only had two annoyances, one of them major, the other, well, annoying.

Model: Toshiba Satellite M55 S3293 (Just so we're clear)

Ok, first issue. The biggy. Ok, my laptop has been a faithful companion, and though all of the review say there is flex and junk in it, I never noticed it until I read them (a few days ago). But there have been problems that have arisen in the past few years.

Ubuntu. Yeah that doohicky. Ever since I have installed it, my internet on both OS's seemed to have diminished. But before hand, my so called 100 MBPS Wireless Router only gave a speed of about 50-100 KBPS. Though this was constant, and never failed. Ever since I installed Ubuntu, my internet has been EXTREMELY FAST. But, there is a downside to this 800 KBPS mad rollercoaster. The high speeds only last, say, 20 seconds at most. Good thing I have a DL accelerator where I can reload my last checkpoint..... Any ideas on how to fix it?

Fan issues. Yeah it is VERY annoying. My fan seems to be on all the time. Sometimes the computer isn't even hot, and it blows out, yeah, awkward, cool air. I should use this as my air conditioning. But, very annoying because it sounds like a hair dryer. Tips?

Also, quick quick question. Is there any way to plug in some sort of card into my card slot to enhance my gaming capabilities? As in faster frame rates, etc. Or add ram via it? Thanks.

You can increase the memory on your laptop. That is easy, and pretty affordable.
How much memory do you have?
You can use CPU-Z to tell you exactly how much memory you have.

You cannot upgrade the graphics card on your laptop. You cannot add anything to increase gaming performance.

As far as the fan goes, the only thing you can try is undervolting. Flipfire has a great undervolting guide.

I have never used Ubuntu, so I cant be of any help there.
I know though, you never get the full speed of the internet as claimed by the port.
You can run speedtest to find the actual speed throughput of your internet provider.
