    - I'm looking into getting a new notebook.
To put things into perspective I do alot with media (video/Image/audio) editing and I also try to multitask the applications so that I could use the computer while running off other applications in the background (formating video and such)

    - Thus I have looked into a new notebook and want to run a 64bit Vista. The processors I've been looking at are mainly the Intel Core 2 Duo running at either 2.0 Ghz - 2.33Ghz. I also figured I might as well just upgrade to the 4GB memory now than later.

    - I've seen reports about peopel not being able to access the full use of the 4GB setup (in some cases only 3,336 MB out of the 4GB).

    - Is there anything I should know before I make any such pruchases??

You shouldnt have any problems with 4GB with a 64 bit OS, however it really isnt worth it right now, I'd wait until prices start falling.

-You should use the 64-bit edition to be able to use all the 4GB memory.
Note:Much of the programs that usually run on 32-bit windows might not run on 64-bit windows. So make sure all your tools/utils are Windows x64 compatible.
-It's better to upgrade the memory yourself, it'll be much cheaper than ordering it on DELL/HP.
-Also, make sure you really need the 4GB, as far as I have read in these forums the 4GB will not be much of a difference (maybe 1% percent or so)
    Good luck with your purchase.

Last but not least not all laptop chipsets support 4GB. Some are even restricted at 2GB so keep that in mind. The 32-bit version is capable of 4GB but some is take away due to system resources and such. That part is hardware dependent and can vary from system to system. It is typically 3.2 to 3.5GB usable.

The price to performance ratio for 4GB of RAM is too steep to justify the cost.

4 GB is not worth it now.

2 GB is more than enough for music/video editing. You can always get a 2 GB stick of RAM right now, and have the option of buying another stick of 2 GB when the prices drop. The only drawback is that buying the 2 GB stick of RAM now is more expensive than buying 2x 1GB sticks.

    - Thanks for all the help everyone,

Not to hijack the page (even though I started it) but I noticed that many of you guys have a DELL M1210 which is actually the laptop I'm primarily looking into...

    - I was curious what load out you guys bought, and hows it going (never bought a Dell before)??
