This problem has been driving me mad for the past week now. I have a LCD monitor (24", 1920x1080), which has a VGA, DVI and HDMI input. My laptop has a DVI. When I connect my laptop to the display, I get a no signal messege on the screen. This is present all the time, whether the laptop is booting, or whether it is in Windows.

But, in Windows, the display is detected by both Windows itself, and in the Catalyst Control Centre. it allows me to select it as my main display, change the resolution etc, but it just doesn't show anything on the actual monitor. Some help on fixing this issue would be very much appreicated. Thanks.

I am assuming that you already have selected the right input on your monitor. This may be a problem with the DVI port on your monitor. Try one of those DVI to VGA adapters and see if you get something. If you do, it probably is the port. You can also try a DVI to HDMI cable or adapter. HDMI is basically DVI anyway sans audio.

Thanks for your reply kosti. Yes, the monitor in question has a "Source" button on the front, but it doesn't help pressing it. The monitor is definitely using DVi as the input source, as it displays on screen "DVI", and then just goes into power saving mode.

I also tried connecting this monitor to a really old desktop I have, which also has a DVI output. It works fine there, as I get a display and have the correct resolution.

Then I tried connecting my laptop to another LCD TV that we have, which also has a DVI input. That setup also works perfectly at the correct resolution of 1680x1050.

I am currently (and have been for the last week) using the new 24" monitor with my laptop with a DVi to VGA adapter, which works fine, but I would really like to get it on DVI, since that was my original plan. Any other suggestions?

    Thanks.

Hey Zero, long time no see :)

Maybe there is an option in the ATI CCC to activate the port or select it?

hmmm? My only other guess is maybe something to do with the monitor's supported display resolutions. Have you tried forcing different resolutions to the external monitor?

Hi mujtaba :). Yes, it has been a very long time. Hope you are well and thanks for the reply. There are no options in CCC that I can find that describe any port activation. I thought the same thing, so i looked for them, but couldn't find anything. I did find one option which said "Reduce DVI frequency", but when checked, it didn't help either. There was also another one, called "Alternative DVI mode", which also did not help.

This I haven't tried yet, but perhaps it will work. I will check and post back.

Thanks for the help guys :)

Well, I tried forcing resolutions, and it didn't help :(. This issue is frustrating me now. I have tried everything that I can think off, but its still a no go. Any other suggestions? Thanks.

Do you have any other equipment with which you can check that the monitor is functioning properly? A DVD player or something?

Yep. I checked the monitor on my old desktop which has an ancient nVidia Ti 4200 graphics card, and it worked fine on DVI. Also, I tried my laptop's DVI output with a different monitor, and it worked fine with that. This is why I am at a loss as to why this current combination isn't working :(.

I have tried updating the drivers, and it has made no difference. There is just no output at all, even before Windows boots, so i don't think this is a driver issue, since the display should still clone the laptop before the Windows initiation.

The monitor itself seems fine to me, since it works with a different PC on DVI at the correct resolution. This leads me to think there is something up with the a setting on the laptop .
