Hi, I have two questions tonight....

How hard is it really with the right direction to replace the cpu in a laptop. ( Specifically the hp hdx 9494nr) not right away but in the future.

And the hard drives in the same computer.

I've never done any hardware upgrading except for ram and graphics cards in desktop pc's. Would it be a bad idea to attempt it without having ever done it before??

    Any input is appreciated thanks!!

Upgrading the HDD isn't so tough - just a bit of pull out then push in, gently :D

Upgrading the CPU will take some patience and you should follow sort of a good methodology for that, because it really pains to see leftover screws after reassembling the whole machine (after a disassembly) :D
But I guess your notebook already has the T8100 (does it?), so you won't really need a CPU upgrade (won't make much of a difference in real-world performance, except in cpu-intensive tasks)....and the new Penryns (1066MHz FSB) might not work....!!

Hey, thanks for the response. Yes it sure does come with the t8100 cpu, so you don't think upgrading to a better processor would do much for me?? I might play an occasional game and just want to make sure that my pc can handle it. If not I may leave that alone and just upgrade my hdd later on. Thanks!!

If the warranty has expired and you can get a good trade-off price for the T8100, you can upgrade to the T9300, for a slim all-round real-world performance....!!
I have never really heard much about this notebook, so you could also try addressing this issue in the HP forum, but since it has a nice i965PM chipset and comes at a good price, I don't see any reason HP would devoid the BIOS from supporting a T9300 (so i think it is a safe upgrade) :D
You could also clean up the heatsink and apply some AS-5 to bring down the temps....

Yeah well I will be ordering it on friday so I havent even gotten it yet... I'm just asking now so I will have reference. But as I said it wouldn't be right now, but in the future as I'am ordering from either circuit city or newegg and to configure it like that with the t9300 on hp would be about 2300 dollars. And my budget right now is around 1700. Thanks!!

Ok thanks :). I might do that... I really would like to upgrade at some point to the t9300.
