Trying to wipe off a Dell 6400:

Last year I successfully formatted the laptop using a thread I found "Dell Vista Laptop Reformat & Bloatware Removal".

I just installed a new SATA 7200 hard drive and now have "err setting up MD3".

I took out disk and tried to install Vista but it stalls after an hour during stage 1.

I read that I needed to do a bios update patch to correct the "err msg".

Bios does show the new 250gb hard drive.

I found the patch and downloaded to CD-R. I changed bios to boot from cd/dvd drive but it says "no bootable devices"

I have no clue what any of the above means but for a girl I can follow directions farely well. ;)

    UPDATE:

Vista installed successfully & was able to download the patch and update to A12 (I think that was #) from A02.

Will try later to install Media Direct.
