    Hi guys,

I just received my "new" 300GB Intel SSD 320 Series but when I turned it arround the surface looked like it has been used or is refurbished, see:

Can anyone who also has a 320 Series SSD or maybe an Intel SSD in general tell if that look is normal?

I paid a good amound of money for it so I'd like to make sure it hasn't been used before.

    Thanks!

Doesn't look good. But use Crystal Disk Info to see if your SSD is really new. Use the portable edition because they installer might have adware.

Like Phil said, the only way to be completely sure is to run CDI on the disk. If you have an external dock or enclosure, put the SSD into there and see.

Really? Crap. I will have to use portable from now on. Where did you hear/find this?

And @ m11xx - that looks like residue from the metal cleaning and/or cooling process. Nothing harmful, although does not look professional.

i hate it when developers do that. just as i hate it when they "do it in the cloud", means making you dependent for lifetime for their service (and thus able to make you pay for ever).

when i get time, i create a counterproduct to CDM

Yeah, it's normal. I guess Intel doesn't care about polishing the surface since you just put the SSD in your system and don't look at it all the time (at least I do :D) Would cost more to make a nice looking surface I guess.

Btw... CDM... when you choose custom install and then uncheck the other stuff it should be clean. At least I haven't found any adware after installing it that way.

If it is not because of the form factor(to make it like an existing HDD thus mounting is easier), there isn't a point of having the case, just look at the 310 series.

My 160GB SSD was exactly like that too. Although I ripped apart the factory sealed retail box...

So that is just a sloppy polishing issue.

As long as they offer a portable option, I'm fine with it. I usually choose the portable option if its available anyhow for apps like that. No need to install on machine.

I have 30 Intel SSD. they all look like that. It is Intel's special technology to make it look the way it is.

MSE catches the open candy and removes @ install did for me anyways.

also if your a more advanced user a great program is called universal extractor, it can extract .exe files and then you can modify the contents to remove stuff you do not want.

    @M11XX:
Mine is Intel 320 SSD 160GB, purchased in brand new from newegg and it's like that too. I guess that's just poor polish. As long as you purchased it "true brand new" and from reputable seller, you have nothing to worry.

    FYI:
Do you buy retail or OEM? I am not sure in OEM, but in retail version, the SSD is put inside anti-static bag and the bag is sealed with
"tamper resistant tape". Once you open the bag, the tape will leave some mark on the bag. I'm not sure how to illustrate it better; long story short, once you open the bag, you can tell that that it's no longer virgin LOL.
