I’m attempting to find a HDD adapter/caddy with a plug that fits the standard industry laptop optical drive form factor.

Would anyone happen to even know the proper name for this form factor anyways? IBM/Lenovo call it the Ultrabay, Toshiba calls it the SelectBay, everyone call it something else.

This is what the rear plug of the optical drive on my HP laptop looks like, so I would need a caddy that fits this:

Basically all laptops use this plug, but some manufactures simply attach an adapter to fit their own form factor which you can see here in the case of IBM:

Any help would be much appreciated!

Why do you need a caddy? It'd probably cheaper, and definitely easier, to just get a standard 5.25" external drive, and just sell your extra laptop optical drive (which I'm assuming is why you're asking this).

Well, you should be able to get that first thing, and then just use HP's bracket to make it fit. It should have the same system interface as the laptop optical drives do.
