I guess it's time for me to get a new harddrive. Seeing as I've never bought a harddrive before, I'm looking for some professional advice from you guys :)

Which ones are the best bang for the buck atm? Which companies should I avoid/look at? etc. etc.

I don't need a 1 tb 10k rpm HDD, anything that's cheap but really good, and is better than 150 gb/5400 rpm is fine, really :) It's just to replace my internal HDD, If I wanted a huge one, I'd rather buy a 3.5in 500gb, which is alot cheaper than 2.5 one <_<

What laptop do you have, and what is the model of your current harddrive?
You can find out the model by downloading software like hdtune. It will tell you the model of the harddrive in the pulldown menu.

Most mechanical harddrives have become very inexpensive, so your upgrade options should be pretty large.

I see that your lappy uses SATA.... but what uses do you have for it? such as games, multimedia, office work? If you give us a good idea we could certainly point you in the right direction

THIS Harddrive is a great choice.

    200GB 7200rpm. $74.99

Good Specs, good brand, decent price.

Mainly gaming and multimedia (I'm a beta tester/graphic artist), which is why I'm after 7200rpm  It's upgraded up to 4 gb of ram, vista business x64, crap CPU (T7300) and nVidia quadro nvs320m (equivalent of 8700gt afaik).

    Well, from what I know:

    -less plates = better
-faster RPM = better performance, but noisier (in most cases)

What else should I look at?

If you're after speed, why not look a smaller SSD?

I'm not after the most expensive things. I just want a cheap and reliable HDD. IMO SSD price is still too high to even consider it.

I've been looking at the Hitachi 7K320 before, seems like it's pretty good after all :) I guess I'll get that one.

By Pricey, he means a good deal.
Just a FYI, we had that discussion earlier.

I am not sure if the WD is any better, but since they are about the same price just flip a coin as to which you get. Both are good drives.
