I got a question - how do i go about replacing a broke acer aspire1691 matshita uj831d dvdrw?
My acer laptop matshita uj831 +- dvd rw drive seems to have breathed its last - it refuses to read anything i put in it although it still appears on the windows device manager(as working!) and the front light does come on. I dont think its a driver issue and i've read that these drives are not always the most reliable. Cant find any firmware anyway! No real idea what's wrong with the thing - which is very annoying.

So i thought i would replace it if all else failed. Seems to be a standard type of slimline drive - thought about getting a NEC DVD recorder ND-6750 OEM Slimline (Dual) Black. Got any advice on replacing laptop dvd drives in an acer - will any old slimline drive work? Any help much appreciated.
