Need laptop Fan, can modify other model or best place to get? Thanks!

I have an ASUS U30JC-X3K laptop and I am not sure but the bearing or sleeve (whatever it has) may be going out in the fan. It was making a grinding sound, I took it apart and cleaned it well and it was ok for a day and now is back but only lightly. I thought about replacing the fan and HD both and just upgrade to a 1TB HD rather than 500GB since its not that much more.

The fan though I cannot find any cheaper than $40 and that sounds high for just a fan with no other cooling parts or heat-sinks etc.

The fan is DFS531205M30T F91T DC5V 0.5A (I think), I see similar fans that are close in numbers so I was wondering does anyone know of a similar style and size fan I could modify that is cheaper? I don't care if I need to trim steel, epoxy plastic etc. Or am I stuck paying $40+ for a fan?

Any good places to get a good deal that are reputable?

Have you tried getting in touch with any of the Asus resellers here? OEMs don't typically sell individual components, but one of the resellers/retailers might stock them (unfortunately we don't).

You can also try the NBR Marketplace.

 

Thanks, I will check. If I found one that was real close, I would probably add the mounting points myself. ASUS I think only sells it has a unit with the heatpipe etc and its out of stock for 2 weeks they said.

You don't sell anything similar do you? I can send you pictures and size dimensions. (I have some pics from the web, but can open mine back up to measure it and take more pics.).

 

Since laptop fans tend to be fairly proprietary in design, and since we don't reserve any other parts other than Clevo parts, I would have to say no.

 

Also if you have access to E-bay in your location look up the part number and see if anyone is selling a used or new replacement fan unit.

 

Just ordered one from eBay for $28 and $10 shipping from China. A joke of a price fir a little fan with no heatsink or anything, but couldn't locate and other options.

 

So what was the part could you show us the link maybe others could tell more on it? Also if you can get a picture of the part on your laptop your talking about one could tell what else it has or doesn't have or needs?

I am right now downloading the Win7 X64 Home Premium SP1 (and media refresh version cause dont know which need yet) from digital river cause I am thinking about replacing the HD as well to a bigger HD or faster HD or an SSD. So I am on the laptop atm.

 

Just remember your COA will determine which O/S you can install...so a Premium Windows7 will not work on Windows7 Ultimate install. So check your install to make sure which O/S version you have install before downloading the O/S iso that will save you time and effort in getting the right install that matches the COA you own. Just make sure that when you ordered the fan that it matches your original fan.

 

Yeah my COA is Win 7 Home Premium 64bit. It looked like the right fan but I didn't have the PC open when I ordered it, but it stated it was for this model.
