    Hello,

I'm upgrading an MSI GT72s 17.3" laptop with faster memory. It currently has 32 GB DDR4 2133mhz ram and I'm looking to install 2666, 3000, or 3200mhz ram as an upgrade.

Will it be possible to use the new ram at that speed or CAS latency with the bios? Do i have to use Intel XTU?

Will this intel cm236 laptop motherboard recognize the faster memory?
edit: This is the model # https://www.msi.com/Laptop/GT72S-6QE-DOMINATOR-PRO-G.html#hero-overview

    Thanks

Probably a giant waste of money with minimal returns. Laptops generally aren't intended to be, nor are designed to be performance overclocking platforms.

I'd also say it's a bit of a waste, but not for the reasons pitz states. Really, the only benefit to faster RAM in a gaming context would be if you were only gaming on the iGPU. If you're using the dGPU, that uses its own (much faster) memory and thus really wouldn't care about what type of RAM you're running, so long as you have enough RAM to run the game (32GB being massive overkill as well).

I would agree with this, there are very few situations where RAM speed has a noticeable impact. I have a few non gaming related use cases where faster actually makes a difference for me. If you have the cash to burn, sure, but personally, I'd put that money somewhere else. If I were you, I'd ask in the MSI forums, people are likely to know whether it can be done or not, you might be limited by the CPU's memory controller, in which case you'd be SOL.

I can move this thread to the MSI forums if you'd like.
