    Hi everyone,

I'm new to this forum, would appreciate your responses regarding my request.
    I got a new sony FW31M.
It has 500gb hdd, but with one single partition, so I'm willing to partition it.
Whats the best way to partition it without losing my windows?
Cause I've already installed lots of applications and I want to install another vista but a 64bit ultimate version and also an XP for my father.
Whats the best way you guys suggest?
Cause I really don't know how to recover the laptop if the current windows get lost and also the boot menu. then I wont have ability to even use sony's own recovery.

And also one another question. I got the laptop on ebay and it was a sealed brand new one. I opened the sony seal myself. how can I get warranty for my laptop? anywhere I've to go to register?

    Would really appreciate your responses.
    Thanks a lot
    Sina

    Welcome to notebook review,

You can try GPART, or Partition Magic to create partitions on your harddrive through Windows.

If you have the appropriate windows cd's, during installation, you can create a partition for that particular install. You can specify the size of the partition, etc.
You get the options for creating a partition before the installation prompts you to format the disc

Can you tell me if it brakes my current windows installation or not?
I've both windows vista ultimate 64 and windows xp sp3 installation disks.
if I put either and on installation I partition the drive, my current windows installation will be left untouched?
    Would appreciate your response.
    Thanks

As long as you do not format your current drive, (probably local disc C) than you are safe.
You should back up your files before partitioning just in case you make a mistake.

Making a partition will effectively make a Local Disc C and a Local Disc D.

    What about diskmgmt?
If I shrink using diskmgmt.msc(windows disk manager as you know), that won't damage the current installation of windows?
and also, how to backup? I've a 1tb hdd. how to backup on it?(shall I use windows backup n restore function?)
    Thanks

You can simply copy all of your files to your external, or you can use Acronis Tureimage to make an image of your current setup, so at a later time you have your entire system saved.

You can try using disc management. I have never used it, but it should do the job
