    Hi,

Would anyone here happen to be a tech that has access to online service manuals... I would like to know if the core 2 duo in the new santa rosa chipset of my Acer 5920G is soldered into the motherboard, or if it is in a ZIF socket.

I was reading this article below and it mentions (all the way down in the reply's) that some notebooks use a ZIF socket. Would anyone here happen to know, or could find out if the Acer 5920G uses a ZIF socket for the processor. Thanks..

Most notebooks now use socketed CPUs.. Got a picture from the inside but I'm afraid the CPU can't be seen from it.

Ice-Tea.. IYO... From looking at that photo... How hard would you say it would be to get the processor's heat sink ontop off.. It looks like there is some sort of copper tubing blocking its removal. Maybe the fan will have to come out as well?

    BTW.. I'm looking to go from my current 1.5ghz 667mhz 2MB cache core 2 duo, to a 2.4ghz 800mhz 4MB cache core 2 duo.

    Thanks..

*BTW.. The MXM upgrade site is incredible!!

To me the processor upgrade that you are looking at is quite costly the T7700 right now at newegg sells for $550  which isn't worth it! You should consider a lower spec'd processor as the T7700 is the "top of the line" and you will pay top dollar for it :( .

Also your 5920 is brand new if you change the processor you will immediately void your warranty therefore if say 2 months after the swap something goes wrong you are on your own, you will have to pay acer $$$ to fix it.

What evolution says about warranty is very important.

The "copper tube" is a heatpipe and per default combined with fan + radiator. They should not be too hard to detach.

And thanks. I do my best ;)

    Thanks for feedback guys..

The processor upgrade would be down the road anyways... When i have the spare $$$. Maybe then the price will come down on it... I am still ahead of the game though, as i only paid $969.99 for the notebook. :D

Would anyone happen to have access to a Acer 5920G service manual?

Intel will introduce 2 new C2D mobile cpu eg 2.6 & 2.8 ghz

the 2.2 and 2.4 ghz will have their price reduced around 30%.

This was reported to be in September 2007

    T7700 for around $330-350

    very interesting indeed :)

wow.... 2.6/2.8!! I wonder if the Mobile Intel PM965 Express Chipset in the 5920G can handle it (same processor socket configuration). I would also have to assume alot more heat with the 2.6/2.8 unless they have them running extremely efficiant.

*I hope the 5920G can be confirmed at some point as having a ZIF socket for the processor.

    Hi guys,

does a higher processing speed bring in more heat issues....
