Hey guys, I have a spare 12.7mm SATA dvd drive laying around so I want to put an enclosure on it and run it as an external DVD drive.

I was looking at this one, but I think it's IDE...

Anyone know where else I can find a cheap enclosure for my drive? Thanks.

There exists a Dell 9.5mm one, but I haven't seen a 12.7mm one. All you need to make it work is an e-sata/usb cable. See here.

I know, what I mean is, looking at the connector, it looks like IDE to me, but I'm not sure if I'm right.

What about power though? I don't want to carry a power adapter around.

If you have a e-sata/USB port, then the usb component will power the optical drive. If not, then the $13US kit shown here wires the sata cable running from the optical drive to a usb port to provide power. No need to carry a power adapter :)
