    Hey,

The hard drive in my sister's Dell Inspiron 1100 crashed and she needs a new one quick. I have three picked out as potentials but do not know anything about interfaces. My question is whether or not the interface makes a difference/should be a factor in getting a new HDD. Is it a compatibility issue?

I don't know what the interface is right now on her laptop HDD, but the interfaces of the three potential new HDD are: "Ultra ATA/100", "ATA-6", and "EIDE".

They are all the same. You just don't want one that is SATA. You might want to look for one with a warranty longer than one year.

Seagate and Western Digital both get a vote each from me~!

I personally like and have used Western Digital harddrives for some time now and their warranty is awesome. If you ever need to have it replaced you just fill out a form online and ship it over to them and they send you a refurbished one really quick.

Their scorpio line is great, just make sure you get the 8mb version and not the 2mb like I did because I didn't make sure of it. Oh well.

Either way you won't go wrong with the Seagate or WD.

    Cheers,
    Mike
