Hey everyone, I need some recommendations for replacing the DVD-RW in a HP zv6000. I want to put in a slot-loading one because it's for the mother-in-law and I hate those flimsy drawers on most burners. I have been mostly considering these two drives:

    The Pioneer DVR-K06:

    and the Panasonic UJ-85J:
    http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=175305

    1. I know that any slot mount will not be flush with the zv6000 because it has the faceplate with a curved bottom edge and that is fine.

    2. This is the size I need correct? 12.7mm

    3. The newegg drive is the OEM version which is intended for use with your current faceplate. So this will probably be a little bit recessed but does anyone know about how far recessed it is? Is the Panasonic drive from zipzoomfly the same (OEM without the faceplate?) This doesn't affect being able to eject the dvd does it, just a little harder to hit the button?

I would appreciate anyones recommendations and am open to other makes/models. Thanks guys and gals!

Either drive should work fine. Just be sure to remember to remove your notebook's battery before swapping hardware. If it's like the zv5000 you'll need a #0 Phillips screwdriver. Both drives have faceplates, they're just the standard flat ones, which HP anticipated so while it'll look different it'll work.

If you are careful and just look around, you might find a way to switch the face plates. Then it would be flush.
