My old hard drive died. I need a hard drive for an Inspiron 6000. The old one says ATA on it, but when I am looking for one they all say SATA. I think they are compatible and would like somebody to confirm it.

Also, if you know of any great deals please post them. I would like a 7200 and at least 100GB. The size doesn't really matter. If there a great deal for something like a 500GB then post it. It just depends on where the price break is.

The fastest ATA harddrives are Samsung HM160HC and WD 320GB. Available at Newegg, cheaper on google.com > shopping.

This has nothing to do with ur hard drive. I read a VERY old post from 2006 about installing an XP from Dell into another comp and works. Is this the same for HP? You stated it worked on your Emachine.

Um... what? Spam? A bot?

Anyway, to the OP, what kind of budget are you looking at, although Phil pretty much nailed the choices available with the information he posted.

You need a 2.5" ATA drive which is also KNOWN AS a (IDE/PATA/P-ATA) 2.5" HARD DRIVE. The name has evolved over time for this type of hard drive but this is the type you need. your laptop probably won';t support a 160gb one but anyhting under 100gb should be fine.

Oh and also, a SATA (Serial-ata or s-ata) 2.5" hard drive will NOT work with your laptop as it won't fit it.
