makes no noises other than the normal spin noise but isn't detected by any computers. not in removeable storage either.

What type of drive is it?

Sata i believe, it's external and made by Seagate 5400RPM i believe..

Check for firmware for you pc on dells web site and see is Seagate has a recovery program that will find the disc for you (like what zen has to find its mp3 players that are not detected).

ok, i got told by a seagate person it may be due to the board in the enclosure but they cannot be certain buy £30 is a lot to fork out for something that might not even be the issue.
