I spilt champagne on my girl friends notebook. Now when the system boots you can hardly see anything on the monitor. When I attached a secondary monitor the output is OK. I think the backlite is out.

I did a search for notebboks that use an Intel T2400 processor and found that the Sony VGN-S110B does, so I called Sony and found they would sell me part x21034942 and x21035103. Is there some way I could see a description of these parts?

CPU-Z might help identify. SiSoftSandra could also help. I would try and confirm model before purchasing screen. But depending on your level of knowledge buying the part vs screen swap might save money.

Your backlit inverter is dead. You'll only have to replace the inverter, normally, not the whole display. Open the display, take the inverter out, look if you can see some damage (a melted part, burned part or burned spots) and search for a replacement. The inverter is often placed near the hinges. It's the thing which can get hot on some notebook displays.

Sony's telling you to buy those parts is nonsense.
the X21034942 is the plastic shell of your laptop. You dont need that in order to change a backlight.

the x21035103 is the plastic bezel which surrounds your screen.

Both parts they told you to buy are not helpful at all in solving your problem. It seems that you luckily got a response from a very underqualified employee at Sony

as far as getting to the inverter, you need to do what franktabletuser stated. It should not ber very hard, but if your system is under warranty, and repair is covered, have a sony guy come to your house and repair it for you.

The model number of your friends laptop should be on a sticker on the bottom of the machine, or on any of the invoices/papers which came with her laptop. You cant simply find the model of the laptop by finding a sony with the same cpu yours has. Tell us the model of the laptop, and we can tell you exactly what part to get.

    FrankTabletuser, you are fabulous.

I open the display and look for the inverter. Near the hinge is a cable. The cable extends outward from under neath the hinge. On one end is a connector that fits snuggley over a socket. Going in the other direction the cable disappears into the display. I bet this is the inverter.

The end that fits over the connector can easily be removed, but how can I open the dispaly witout damaging it inorder to disconnect the other end?

Powerpack, I thought I would scrap the shell I have and salvage the parts. So I found a Sony shell that used the same processor, called Sony to findout if I could buy it. The reason for my post was I to make sure my processor, memory cards, hard drive, optical drive, and WiFi card would work in the new shell.

K-Tron, inspite of very stupidly damaging my girl friend's computer, life is good ... I have no complaints.

Thank you for replying to my post. The computer in question is not covered by warranty. I do have an inverted handy. I do not know how to install it.

So you are trying to put your quanta in a Sony shell?
I am not so sure that that will work. The sony uses different parts than your quant sw1 uses, so the lower part of the chassis is not going to match up very well.
    Back on topic,
If you look straight at the screen, you will see small rubber pieces around the screen. Underneath those small rubber pieces are screws which sandwich the two halves of the lid together. SImply remove those screws and remove the front bezel. Than you need to remove the metal pieces which affix the lcd to the plastic front cover. Than you will gain access to the other end of the inverter.
If you have any troubles, post a picture, and we can help more from their. AKA, to show you what you need to remove.
