    Hi,

I have a Dell Inspiron 8200, pretty old but works well. I was living in Europe and the Middle East for a few years and now I have returned to Australia. The battery would last anywhere up to two hours whilst over there.

Now that I am back in Australia, the battery is lucky to last 10-15minutes. I use an adaptor for the power input plug so that the I can charge and run the laptop. Now I am baffled at what the problem could be. I pulled the battery out and pressed the button and all five lights illuminate.

I don't know what to do! Whether to buy a new battery, or perhaps buy a new power adaptor.

    Please help.

    Thanks in advance.

    Dublin,

There are programs you can download to check the status of your battery. I am not sure about the voltage down under, but when I was in Italy even though I had a converter, my battery took forever to charge.

Not much help, but maybe something.

well i didn't want to add this, but, i am having the same problem with my nokia phone.............its not the first time i've came from europe to oz, but this time, my batteries seem to not be charging fully...........the dell computer tells me it is 100%, but within 10 or 15 mins it runs out........

as far as power goes, all i usually do is get the power point adaptor as europe is 2 pin and OZ is three pin....

i read somewhere that by pressing the light on the dell battery, it will tell you the strength of the battery......which was 5 stars from 5.

Did your battery last for 2 hours in Europe and then just like a week or two later do this? If it did it right away, I would say it would be an ac adapter issue. Check on the bottom of the laptop to see what the power requirements are. How many volts/amps and then try to find out what voltage/amperage is in Oz. It may be different. If the battery has slowly been losing its charge, then the battery is shot.

Also check that the power adaptor pin that connects to the laptop is not loose. And that the pin that connects to the motherboard is not broken.
