    It will display a picture of 1920x1080 on the monitor. :|

    I think the guy was worrying if the monitor would only display 1280 by 800

    The laptop will be able to output a signal covering the full resolution of the screen, even though it's different to the laptop resolution. You won't be able to 'mirror' the displays (ie. show exactly the same on one as on the other) very well, since they can each show a different number of pixels, but you will be properly able to use them side by side, or use the external monitor as your only display.

    Ah, sweet. Thanks. I was worried that there would be no advantage to getting the 22" over the 19", which would've meant a waste of money.
