    Modding a desktop GPU cooler into a laptop?

    My Ranger has been dead for a while, so while its been dead I have been thinking about how to mod it for when its back up and running.

    So for the Ranger, I was thinking about having a heat exchanger made that extends to where the rear of the fan would normally be, extending the heat exchanger maybe 3 inches. So the fan would be moved to the ODD bay.

    I also want to have better efficiency of air as the scenario for the Ranger only optimally uses half the heat exchanger while the rest of the exhaust of paltry at best.

    The height that is allowed in the ODD bay is 19-20mm but the space for a larger radius fan is quite good for this.

    I have been thinking about this for a while, but some time ago I had seen (iirc) @t456 mod a laptop with a fan from the desktop blowers (I think the same fan was used in the 5970/6970/7970).

    So the issue with the fan is I would likely have to open the bottom and extend the feet like he had. So I was thinking maybe the fan from an oversized blower maybe?

    The only fan that comes to mind for this is the heatsink on the HIS 7870 IceQ. Im not sure if its a 12v fan though. I would also need to figure out if I can use the battery leads to feed it with a buck voltage converter. I guess I need to get a tool to measure the leads and such so that Im not completely reliant on info online and users here lol

    The end goal here is to add more mass, so as to add more heatpipes, so the GPU traditionally uses 3, and I would like to expand to 7 (5 on GPU 2 on VRMs) and I would expand the CPU heatpipes from 2 to 7 (4 on CPU heat exchanger and 2 to GPU side.

    I personally dont care about fan noise as long as I dont hear much of it over my headphones. I use open-ear headphones for better sound stage in games but I usually have the volume high.

    Anyways, what do you guys think?

    Could work, but you would likely be better suited to just using the M6700 13CFM fan's than a desktop blower for how much work it would be.

    Maybe for the CPU side, but I have much more space to work with and would like to utilize it.

    Using the m6700 fan might be easier for certain, but desktop fans are maybe 30-40 CFM

    In a pretty sure there is enough room in odd area for a liquid cooling pump reservoir if it was custom made

    I mean i am very tempted to add a fan in there for more circulation but i really isnt that simple. I need a smoke machine visually see where air is going before anything. I am VERY tempted to get the vapor chamber from digikey for my 1070. Then raise the tdp. The only thing keeping me from from doing now is what the actual limitation for a full 150watt 1070 or arleast 115watts for starters... ill tell ypu what if i had the 12v external connector version 1070 this would be a breeze. Modding it for ranger would be a joke. The heatsink iant the issue it it the mxm slot power deliver traces.(needs to be thicker) or etc.
    It hoe it isnt the pch being the limitation... i might be SOL

    Digikey also has thr vapor chamber for a 2011 socket mounting screw lay out. You would have to contacted them directly for a custom fitted on. I plan to do that after my gpu thermal mod. I want to go up to 1440 if i can get to 100 or 115 watts.
