What about a BIOS upgrade? I heard that although you can just pop in the new chip, you will need a BIOS upgrade or something for it to work properly.

According to the post, he/she just dropped it in and it worked. I'm guessing that the BIOS upgrade is needed for some, and not on others. I don't know, I don't work for Intel (but I wish I did)

it depends on the notebook. some notebooks can work if you just put it in the socket. others, such as the asus s96j will need a bios update for it to work.

no way of knowing unless someone tries it out. i only know of the s96j b/c someone tested the merom on it. i don't know of anyone who tested it on the w3j....most likely b/c they don't want to void their warranty in the first year.
