I had just stupidly assumed that my Toshiba Satellite M55 would accept Duo memory sticks but it doesn't and now its stuck in there and I cant shake the thing out!

What can I do? I'm afraid of dissembling my notebook as I ruined another of my notebooks by dissembling it and somehow messing up.

Can I use tweezers or something to get it out or do I have to open up the notebook?

    Help!!!

:D Hiya yeah with my first laptop, my Toshiba M50, I did the same! I manage to get it out with a tiny long tweezer, but just be very careful and make sure its switched off! Good luck!

I done something stupid like that too...

This is what I did: I used a peice of thick paper cut into a long rectangle finger. I slide this underneath the MS duo with the other end sticking out. You can then angle your laptop until it just slides out. If that doesn't work you can use a bit of sticky tape. Hold one end and try to stick the top of the MS then gently pull out (the other piece of paper is still underneath). Worked for me.

Okay, I really think there's a divine force out there. :)

The card was deep deep inside and I tried to use a knife and tweezers but it just wouldn't come out. I gave up and went away frustrated, came back to try once more and the card was already sticking a bit out of the notebook! So I just easily pulled it out. Thanks god!

Make sure that your notebook is off as stated, but also take the battery out and push the power button once or twice to drain any of the electricity still in there. Can't hurt to be extra careful. :)

Whooa... seems a few of us have this problem as well... Just rescued my sansdisk MS pro duo from my Acer TM 4150 with a little help from ez2remember's advice, but with a little modification:

I folded a piece of paper into a long strip thick enough to slide on top of the MS, to make it press against the top surface of the slot. Couldn't get it underneath like paulacolip. When that couldn't move the thing out, I took 3M scotch tape and wrapped it around the paper strip, facing outwards so it would grip the MS so I could guide it out. My laptop was on all the time, BTW, and I waited a while for the heat to stick the tape before pulling it out. Phew!

Bad design... why the hell does it get stuck if the MS Pro insigna is on the card reader??!! it's supposed to fit! Had no problem taking in and out my SD card...

Gonna put in my 2 cents here :O

ez2remember's advice worked for me :) I couldn't find any tweezers small enough to remove the mem stick. I took a small strip of tape small enough to get into the slot, slipped it in above the mem stick, and then slipped in an equally-sized piece of folded paper above the tape to mash the tape onto the memory stick duo. Then I slowly pulled it up and out :D

Really, they need to put eject buttons on these things or something...

You guys have just saved my life, so I just signed up to say thankyou SO much! Was playing around on my dads brand new Toshiba M55 Satellite. I, like everyone else here, saw the memory stick duo symbol and slotted my card in to upload my holiday pics to facebook. The thing got stuck very deep and it was only thanks to the brilliance of the sticky tape and paper method that i managed to get it out. I got a strip of paper, stuck the tape to the bottom so a bit was poking out at the end, slotted this in the card reader and after a bit of prodding and poking I could pull the memory stick back out. My dad would have gone mental if I'd jammed up his card reader after having his laptop for a week, so thank you for saving me a lot of grief and years of apologies!!! :)

We just got a memory stick duo out of an newer HP laptop just now with all your help! A slight adjustment we made was to use thinnish, but stiff card stock on one side of the card, then the same with double-sided tape on the other side to grip the card. Our second choice, if the card was too thick, was post-it notes, but we didn't have to try that.

I realize not everyone has double-sided tape lying about, but if the two-paper route isn't working, the investment of a couple bucks on double-sided tape would be a next best step prior to the repair shop!

My wife and I simply CANNOT believe how easy it was to make this silly mistake - and it's not like we are computer-luddites - I repair computers and laptops, and my wife works on them nearly all day everyday. This is just POOR design on Sony's part, making the Duo card so that it detaches so easily from the adaptor, and then it fits in the MS/MSPro slot so easily!!

The ultimate irony is that my wife used to be employed by Sony! She insists that things have gone downhill there since her departure ;)

hope you all the best of luck with your solutions!

and THANKS again! gotta love the internet!

Seems like a lot of people are getting their MSPD stuck into their card reader that doesn't support it.

It seemed there was no possible answer... thanks I read your forum!

I never would have thought about using paper. The thought came about tweezers, but did not seem good.

It is impressive how good this work, and it was actually fast.

I first put the post it with the blue side up and inserted under the stick and tried to pull out... it did not work. Then I took a thicker paper and slipped it under the post it... I think this makes the post it to actually get close to the memory stick and get "glued" to it.

This time, when I pulled the post it, both memory stick and paper came off.

Thanks a lot!!! This so very very simple way... is just elegant and no doubt... totally Cheap

A very simple solution which worked on my Toshiba A100 with an MS Pro Duo stuck in the Ms Pro/SD slot:

The Pro Duo is usually sold with a Pro adapter which actually fits the slot, as Sahaskatta mentioned.

I slid the adapter open end first into the slot so that it enclosed the stuck Pro Duo, then worked the adapter out with a quick side-to side motion. Within seconds the adapter was out, with the undamaged card inside.

Paper trick works well. Place one sided tape sticky side up on the paper finger and use two small perpendicular strips to hold the tape down. Then insert between card and card reader and gently pull the card out. This was so easy and quick and disassembling the laptop dosen't help (oops!).

Thanks to all of you and to God!!!! I did the same thing on my satellite computer. My memory stick duo was stuck inside. I got Loctite super glue and put it on a toothpick. I put the toothpick (carefully) to the MS and let it sit for a sec. It dried and I was able to pull it out!!!

I mistakenly inserted memorystick duo into the SD+MMC+XD card reader on my Toshiba M500 notebook.
This card simply got stuck into it and while I was trying to pry it out, it went deeper and got stuck!

Since I dint have the double sided tape, I looped back the single sided tape to form this double sided tape! :)

Initially I couldnt insert the tape between the reader slot wall and the card. So had to use this piece of metal to make some space between the two.
Initially when I pulled out the paper, the card refused to come out.
Second time around, I stuck the tape as far as it could go and the pressed the paper onto the card using the metal strip.
Lo and behold! this time when I pulled it, out came the card!!

I did this same thing with my Dell Inspiron. Tried tweezers and when that didn't work... I decided to start Google-ing. Thank God for all of you! My big bro owns a computer repair shop, but he would have made fun of me for years if I had brought my labtop to him! I took a piece of scotch tape, slid it on top of the card... then used a piece of card stock paper to press on top of the tape to make it hold and then just slid everything out!! I had to join to say thanks!

P.S. The funniest thing about the whole situation is that even though I guess I wasn't supposed to put it in there...the card worked. I was able to upload my pictures and everything... just wouldn't come out. Seems like if the computer can read it, it should be able to give it back, too!!!!

    Thanks again.

    Hey All
I also registered just to give my thanks to the genius who came up with the tape/paper/etc method. I was retting really angry with the situation and trying to tweezer and was considering taking for repair or pulling the back off. When I read this forum I thought 'I dunno, paper and tape?, mine seems to to be stuck in pretty hard'. Five minutes later its out and everyhing works fine. Thanks again!!

thanks a lot for the neat trick to pull out the duo. I too signed up just to say thanx.

I tried it a little differently to the above illustration. stuck the loop of tape on to a key chain sized credit card. It was much easier to push it in on top of the duo because the card was the right thickness and was also a bit stiff. Then i pushed a thick paper on top so that the tape stuck to the duo. got it out the first time itself.

O_O Despite reading this thread (and quite a bit of computer, telephone and memorycard knowledge), I managed to get a MS Duo Adapter lodged in the card reader of my Asus.

The reason why I tried? Our other laptop has a different type of reader, which accomadates MS Duo cards (i.e. It's not a deep slot, so even SD cards are not flush). Therefore I decided to try it in my Asus. I managed to get it in the reader quite easily, and copied what I wanted to the card. It was when i wanted to get it out, I ran into trouble. I foolishly expected the springloaded mechanism to be powerful enought to jetison the card out. It didn't. So I used a slightly modified version of the tape on paper method and voilà, it worked.

You guys are Gods. I feel like crying now (dont worry i wont for the sake of u guys). For everyone, Heres my story:

I was selling something on Ebay, and i wanted to post pics. I was to lazy to get the slip for the adapter, so i shoved it in! Then i got pics uploaded (onto HP Pavillion Laptop), and tried to take it out. The poorly manufactures sony card wouldn't come out. So i searched all over google and posted a Question on Yahoo Answers! After 2 hours trying to get it out or find a solution, i stumbled upon this website, i read every post and did almighty paper trick. After 17 tries, i finally got it out! Thanks everyone.

PS. I also registered to post this post. May i be a inspiration to everyone :) ....JK

My MMC was stuck in my laptop for months and I was never bothered to get it out - I tried but all attempts failed miserably. Out of boredom today I googled "mmc stuck in toshiba laptop" and found this amazing thread. I tried the trick with paper and tape to get the card out, after some time it worked and I was so relieved. Thanks again everybody.

Thank you sooo much for this topic, I am so pleased that I had to register just to say thanks! I bought a toshiba satellite yesterday, and I am still in the process of copying stuff from my old computer to this one. So I was using my psp to copy the files, then I noticed that thid laptop had a memory card reader, and has the symbole of memory stick duo. So i tried to stick my psp's memory stick in it... What happened next all you guys seem to know what happened :p
I found this site and used the long paper trick, without tape, 'cause i don't have any. I splitted a normal a4 paper in half, and folded it until it could fit in the slot. I put it all the way, pressed the memory stick, et voilla!!!
Thank you so much for this topic!!! God bless the internet!!!

Like many before I only registered to say THANK YOU!!!! I borrowed the Sony camera from my boyfriend, saying I don't need the computer adapter as "my laptop accepts all memory cards". Right. You know the rest. The problem was, I was talking on Skype to my boyfriend as the card got stuck, so I was trying not to make too much noise getting it out (tweezers, shaking ...)! Finally, I found this forum through Google. The hard paper did the trick, it was out in 2 minutes - in complete silence! My boyfriend will never know. ;-)

Ok, here is what to do. I used a package that batteries came in, cut off a strip about 1/2 inch wide, and about 6 inches long. Fold in half to make a paper tweezer. I used plain scotch tape and made a little tube, and stick to the inside bottom but back about a half inch. Slide in gently and make sure the top piece goes over the card and forces it down. Then push a little further until the tape grabs the sucker, then gently pull it straight out!
    Good Luck.

    Hey,

I just wanted to thank everyone for their help, i was saved from possibly destroying the laptop!! :D

Although I'm artistically-limited, and can't seem to loop tape around paper :p
I used a nail file, slipped it under, and used the grippy texture to grab the card and pull it out.

    Again, thank you
    ! :)
