I installed a corsair 1gb 5300 into my inspiron e1505 notebook and for some reason the memory is now recognized but the original piece is not

The original piece is a 533 mhz and i was wondering if the speed differences would cause the weaker one to not work

The speed difference would only slow the faster one down to match the speed of the slower. I don't know what your problem is, but rule out that possibility.
