I'm trying to find an Acer laptop with Synaptics touchpad but very difficult to get any assurance either from retailers or from Acer, they simply would say that they don't have the required info or pass me on to the manufacturer.
What is the best way to confirm that the laptop is installed with Synaptics and not Elantech or Alps, if anyone has any links or methods to determine, please let me know. Thanks.

If you look up the drivers for the laptop in question, you should be able to quickly figure how who made the touchpad based on who authored the drivers.

I can't confirm it with any solid specs but the last two Acer's I owned were using Alps trackpads :p

Thanks for the response, I tried that method for Acer Aspire E1-571 model but the drivers available for Synaptics, Alps and Elantech and I made a mistake of not finding the firm confirmation when I bought my 5750 ( a buyer told me that it came with Synaptics) which came with Elantech. Thanks again for all your help, I will try Acer's pre-sales advisors hoping for some sort of help from them.

Too many walls of resistance should be a clue that something is amiss. Check elsewhere, and see how well the others do first. Never ignore these clear and present warnings; and take your time before you buy.

Look for reviews and user experiences, that should help frind some of that info. sometimes, you can find more than one touchpad brand for the same model too which complicates things.

i had a lot of this with my previous asus laptops, seems acer has same strategy as well. Would go to drivers page and there would be 2-4 drivers for different manufacturers of touchpad/wlan/lan would just need to get all of them and go by trial and error. Especially annoying would be asus, as I'd actually have to manually install some drivers, as asussetup.exe wouldn't even recognize my OS/hardware that the drivers were for...

Doubt you will have much luck at it, as people pointed out, even with same model of laptop they use parts from different manufacturers, so if one person has synaptics touchpad they might shove some different one in yours...

Best bet is to just check drivers page for laptop and hope there aren't 5 different drivers for different manufacturers.

Not telling us the model and make of Acer or what O/S your using doesn't help us to help you in return. If the install touchpad software isn't synaptics it will tell you it's not compatible with the touchpad and you just try the next one. Links doesn't help when we have no details from you. Is there a reason why your having with either Alps, Elantech or Synaptics????

Some may disagree with me but I think Synaptics touchpads and touchpad drivers are better than the other touchpad manufacturers. They've got way more tweaks and settings you can do and from my own experience Synaptic touchpads seem to respond better while providing a more enjoyable touch experience. Just my opinion.

I'm trying to determine the Touchpad model in Acer Aspire E1-571, there are different drivers available for this model in Acer Support, I haven't bought the laptop yet, this is only a request for help from other members before I commit myself, I may consider other options as some of the other manufacturers offer Synaptics only in a particular model.

Wait you haven't bought it yet? Well only when you buy it and search Acer site with the serial number or registration number will you get a more exact driver type or touchpad type it uses. Just searching the site doesn't give much details til you can get the serial number and check on the site will you have more details on the laptop itself.

I just want to avoid buying the laptop with Elantech or Alps Touchpad, I feel these are inferior to synaptics (my opinion) and prefer the Synaptics touchpad but if I couldn't find one I may have to look elsewhere.

True but you won't know what touchpad it has til you buy it and verify with the manufacture with the serial number then and only then will you know which touchpad you have. If you feel that they will have Alps or Elan touchpad then you should go with another manufacture then rather then trying to figure out which is which.

I'm really shocked to see many expensive Acer models(over £500 mark) are also released with Elantech Touchpads, I have also looked at some Packard Bell Easynote but they also have either Elantech or Synaptics, I'll just leave the matter to rest and see what they come up with the release of Haswell. Thanks again guys for your input.
