I just bought a new Asus 1002HA netbook and would like to get a very slim and light external CD-DVD drive to use with it, something that's relatively cheap. I don't need a burner right now as I rarely burn and I already have a large external burner to use for the rare instances I need to make a disc. I want the drive to be able to run on just USB power. Anyone have suggestions? Anyone have any opinions about this model on eBay:

(I cannot post the URL but it is item number 280289953403. Put the number in eBay's search engine and the listing will come up.)

I already have an external Sony CD-DVD drive but it connects via a PC card slot. My preference is to use this and not buy something new now .... but I don't know if adapters exist to plug this into a USB slot. Do they? I did a search on eBay and couldn't find anything but maybe I'm searching under the wrong terms.

That one seems to be CD. No mention of DVD.

I would recommend getting something that can read DVDs. I think that is what the OP is looking for.

The cheaper drives may be older units which use more power and need two USB ports. It may be worthwhile paying a bit extra and getting up-to-date hardware which as the LG GSA-E50L which as worked off one USB port on every notebook tried including some ultraportables and the Samsung NC10 netbook.

Yes, I wanted DVD capability. I decided to bite the bullet and just bought the GSA-E50L which I eyed yesterday on eBay. It's selling there for $78 shipped and I got $10 off using live.com cashback. Too bad I snoozed. The cashback is just 15% today and just yesterday it was 20%. Still a good buy. At least I bought my Asus 1002HA yesterday when it was 20%.

The Plextor shown by Dave looks like a nice one but it's too pricey for me.

The LG model should do fine. I read all the reviews of it on Newegg and they were almost all very positive.

icecube, love your avatar! But then I'm a big Mets fan. :D

    Thanks everyone for your help.
