What do you need it for? A better CPU will not give you much of a performance boost really, a 2ghz c2d is usualy strong enough for anything togheter with a good graphicscard.

To actually answer the question, the ASUS G1S uses Santa Rosa based processors. So the cpu you have is probably a T7250/T7300
You should have no problem upgrading to the T7500, T7700, T8100, T8300, T9300, T9500 as long as their is bios support.
I know for a fact the T8300 works in the ASUS G1S, cause a friend has one in his. That being said, you should be able to go up to either of the T9xxx processors I mentioned.

You may want to check out this thread, the G1S is apparently overclockable

Kinubic, I've got a G1s too (with a 2.2 GHz proc), and it's fine for everything I need, processor-wise. What are you trying to do with your laptop?

A processor upgrade won't benefit you if you're only playing games. The 8600M-GT is the performance bottleneck.

Perhaps it's time to format your system and re-install Windows so everything feels snappy again? ;)
