OK, so I dropped a bit of liquid on my keyboard on my Toshiba A65 :( .... I flipped it over, let it dry over night. This a.m. it did start up, atleast I heard the HD running, but the screen if black .... Any ideas how to fix this?

I am giong to be getting a new laptop in the next few days, so I am giong to be transfering all docs , pics, etc to new laptop. Will I need to be able to view the Toshiba's screen to do the transfer or can I run transfer from the new computer?

    tks

Well assuming if your hard drive is not fried, you can take it out of your toshiba and put it in a hard drive closure 2.5' and plug it into your new laptop via a usb cord then you can use it as a external harddrive. I can't think of any other ways.

try connecting the laptop to an external monitor. if there are no image in the external monitor, try pressing the fn key combination for monitor output once the windows is booted up.

Yeah, try that option before you buy an enclosure to recover your files.

You didnt let it dry enough. Also you should disassemble it for it to dry. Might not be too late. Take it apart and let it sit. Meanwhile take the hard drive and transfer the data off. You can try to remove all battery and drain all the power off the main board and wash it. You can wash the keyboard as well since a short in the keyboard can cause the computer to not boot. Use a dishwasher for the keyboard. Key is to dry it throughly like for a few days.

Remove the power supply, battery, and harddrive. Leave the covers off and remove or lift the keyboard it possible.

Go to the local pharmacy and find 97% alcohol (not 70%). Use the alcohol to remove any residue (Qtip, paper towel, etc). If you have enough you can actually dip the computer in the alcohol. Alcohol will displace water and help dissolve residue.

Allow to air dry for 24hrs. If you want to help you can use a hair dryer(or other similar device) with no heat.

Thanks for the advice. I got home last night and the HD didn't even turn on :( ... It went from bad to worse , now the HD doesnt' start. When I hit the PWR button, the button lights up, but I hear no attempt of the HD to run.

Did it finnaly die or is there stil hope? I tried again this a.m. and nothing :( ...

I just want to the info out of the HD, the laptop itself is being replaced anyway.

note to self: remember to keep backup in external HD :(
