I am getting a Lenovo G510 Laptop (59402507) shipped to me within a couple of days. I got it for a really good price - $649.99 with 4700MQ, 8GB RAM, 1TB HDD, along with other usual components. The only thing I am not satisfied with it is the screen; it is only 1366x768, that too with only 200 nit. I read in the reviews that the screen viewing angles are not that great, either.

I have seen people upgrade their screen to 1080p on their laptops, but most of them could do it only because their laptop product line-up offered that upgraded screen and thus purchasing a compatible full HD screen was possible. In my case, however, 1366x768 is the only screen option for G510 line up. But what I am wondering is that if I buy a 15.6 inch, 1080p, left side 40 pin, LED backlit ( we can see that G510 indeed uses left sided 40 pin LED connector from a re-seller offering of the stock screen here : http://www.laptopscreen.com/English/model/IBM-Lenovo/LENOVO~G510~SERIES/ ), will I be able to upgrade ? For example, Lenovo Y510 has a 15.6 inch, 1080p, left sided 40 pin LED screen replacement option - if I buy this screen, what is the chance that my upgraded screen will work without any issues? I know my laptop will be able to handle the hd resolution since there are laptops with full HD screen and 4700MQ with integrated graphics. However, I am concerned about any issue caused by the BIOS and physical connectivity issues ( for example, screw holes ). As far as I have seen from G510 and Y510 screen replacements videos on youtube, there are two screws on the top edge for both models, 2x1 = 2 screws on the bottom (G510)/ 3x2 = 6 screws in the bottom (Y510), and three each on the sides for both of the models. However, I cant be sure whether the screw holes match up even when the numbers are same along matching edges, let alone the 2 vs 6 screws in the bottom. Maybe I can leave the four screws out while fitting the Y510 screen to G510 ?

    Any suggestions/experiences?

I'm actually in the exact same situation: the G510 was a great deal, and the specifications are pretty great, certainly as good as anything I will use it for, but the screen resolution looks to be the most limiting part of the laptop.

Did you end up getting any answer for this? Either by finding info somewhere else, or trying it yourself? If so, how did it go?
