What is the type and frequency of your RAM? PC2-6400

Honestly, I wouldn't go for the 4GB kit, they're too expensive, and if you have 32bit vista, unnecessary.

Go for the least expensive 2GB *1 Stick and add it to your 1GB stick, then you're good to go.

I disagree. You're already investing over $30 for a kit of 2GB, so spending an extra $5 or $10 to double the capacity is a smart choice. And even though the original poster is using a non-64bit OS, they will still see a considerable performance increase with ~3GB of RAM capped with a 32bit OS, more so than they would with going from 1GB to 2GB.

Again, I disagree. Buying a kit of RAM allows the original poster to enjoy a matched set of memory sticks for increased performance and reliability, in lieu of mixing two different memory sticks together which can cause BSOD's and system instability.

To the OP, invest in a kit of 4GB (2 x 2GB) SO-DIMM memory. You'll want DDR2 667MHz, PC2 6400 memory. Try looking for brands that offer lifetime warranties, and have good reputations for customer service. OCZ, Corsair, Crucual are some top notch choices.

By UAE, am I to understand that you'll be buying this from the United Arab Emirates? If not, see if Newegg is available to you.

Anyway, if it were up to me, I would purchase the following:

    OCZ 4GB (2 x 2GB) 200-Pin DDR2 SO-DIMM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400)

I own two kits of the stuff, and never had a problem. Good quality with lifetime warranty.

money is not a problem, i just want the max performance to get. because my laptop become 40% slower since i installed Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 and Oracle 9i. i know this normal due to heavy programs. if you noticed that Kingston HyperX has the lowest latency.
these are my laptop spec with the RAM that comes from dell.
    Intel PM45 chipset 1066MHz FSB
    Core 2 Duo P8700 2.53GHz
    Elpida EBE11UE6ACUA-8G-E 1GBx2 PC2-6400 800MHz

    thanks for the fast response.

Well, I'm a bit enthusiastic for OCZ memory, they've always done right by me so that goes a long way in me recommending their memory to people! :D

In any case, the Crucial kit is CL6, so you might want to avoid that, even though any appreciable performance increase of CL5 over CL6 is impossible to detect without the use of synthetic benchmarking. The Kingston kit is also good, but you're also paying a lot more for it. Quite frankly, the OCZ kit and the Kingston are pretty much going to perform on par with each other. It's really up to you which one you buy at this point.

Not true, there are 2GB *1 stick for $15 from wholesalers...

two of those would be better than the overpriced stuff I'm looking at up there i those links.

With the way prices for laptop memory are these days, why wouldn't you want to invest your money in a matched pair of 4GB (2 x 2GB) memory sticks? SO-DIMM DDR2 memory is so affordable, I just don't see the benefits of buying un-matched RAM to save a couple bucks. Especially from a wholesaler whose return policies are suspect at best.

Please describe how this alternative is better than the kits that were linked in this thread previously, without using price as the talking point.
