    My current desktop is a:

    AMD X2 4800
    2GB DDR2 Memory
    250GB SATA 7200 HDD
    GeForce 6800 GPU

My new laptop (after i make some upgrades) will be:

    Core2Duo 7300
    4GB DDR2 Memory
    200GB Hitachi 7K200 HDD
    8600GS 256MB

I know the specs of the laptop are better technically better, but in reality is my laptop going to be faster than my desktop?

Yeh , desktops will always outperform by a little due to cooling... this means they are capable of much faster processors ect... but comparing that desktop you your laptop your lappy will outperform that desktop

If your desktop is running stock, your laptop will probably be faster.

yes your laptop will be faster but it wouldn't cost much money to update the performance of your desktop. Basically just a better video card and a mild overclock and you're there. You may or may not notice the difference in memory...

Your laptop would be faster, but you can get your desktop for half the price of your laptop right now I bet.
