OK, I'm pulling my laptop apart to check out the CPU situation (tech support says it can't be upgraded but Intel's own documentation says it can) and I'm down to getting the wires disconnected from the MB following the guide found here: http://www.irisvista.com/tech/laptops/toshiba-satellite-a205/laptop-disassembly-2.htm

    Two things have happened:
    1. I can't seem to get step 6 (the media center key panel seems attached to the rest of the top half of the laptop)
    2. There's some really small wires connected to the MB that I'm not sure how to disconnect, I've tried using a toothpick to safely pry in between the connection but it also seems tight. A pic is below, maybe someone can give me an idea on how to disconnect this (and the others like it, safely).

those are your speakers. Just pull it. Or use little pliers to do it more safely

But I tried putting a toothpick in there to leverage it out but it didn't want to move. I also don't have any really tiny pliers, could tweezers work if I'm careful?

EDIT: (watching Canada's Worst Handyman 3 right now so I may respond only once in a while)

yes, they should. The connection is not that tight as you think. It is held by two clips on sides.

Are the clips on the white part or beige part? Because there really isn't anything to grab onto on the white part, and the beige part didn't move when I pushed on it pretty good with another toothpick (weird, I know, but it's soft enough not to damage anything and has a good tip for getting into tight places).

PS. Where did you get those?

Oh, just got a PM from bigozone. He said that it should pull out, it just may need to be wiggled a bit from side to side. Did that and they pulled out perfectly fine. Thanks all.

(May respond back in this thread with more questions if needbe)

EDIT: Question #2: Something in the upper right corner (by the speaker) is holding the laptop together but I can't see any screws from either the top or bottom of the notebook. Any ideas?

the clips are inside. You won't be able to get to them. And they don't do much, anyway.
I pulled out my old system's fan cable to show. As you can see, wires are secured there really well. Seriously, just pull it a bit stronger holding to both wires.

PS This toolset was a gift from a friend. He didn't pay much for it, i'm sure, but it's extremely useful.

Still wiggling the top half of the case but it's still stuck somewhere under the right speaker. Could there be something undeneath holding it? If it's possible, how could I unhook it so I can get the case off?

I did check for screws, there were 4 screws from the bottom that I took out (same at the left side) and there are no visible screws from the top. I'm wondering if there isn't a tab under it though since the right side does come up slightly. I'll keep working it and maybe it'll pop loose like the other side did.

also, remember, top cover on most of laptops is held in place by tight plastic clips. Sometimes you just need to pick'em with some thin plastic blade.. like a credit card, for example. Just slide it thtrough the edges

    Here's a pic of what I see
    [IMG]

The problem is that the black and silver parts are one, so I can't remove them like the guy in the guide did. I can't physically see any screws, plus the right side (abouts where the speaker is), can rotate and move slightly which leads me to believe that it's not a screw but something else.

EDIT: here's a pic of the rotating I was talking about
    [IMG]

    EDIT2:
You mean along the edge between the upper and lower halves? I tried using a guitar pick to slide in between, it hits something, well, many somethings, but they feel too solid to be a latch(es).

If you r able to rotate it, then the only idea that comes into my head is a cable connection. But there should not! I see the cable from your media keys, from your speaker, all fine, should go off without any problems. I'm confused((

I wish, but I'd rather not void my warranty (checked with the guys I bought it from, said as long as nothing breaks, I'm still covered by their warranty :D ) At this point, I just want to grab it and rip it out, but that'd be the end of my laptop.

EDIT: looking a bit more, it seems the thing that's holding it is a little bit farther down actually, maybe near the power jack or the DVD drive. If I can get the screen off, I think I'd be able to get the top half of it off, how do you think I'd be able to reach down under the part that's stuck with a screwdriver and loosen one of the two (?) screws that holds the screen on.

EDIT2: Managed to lift up from the end and I think I see what seems to be another screw hole, problem is, there aren't any more on the bottom and I can't access that one without first pulling the MB out and getting at it from the other side.

EDIT3: HELLS YEAH! Googling a bit turned up another page on the same irisvista site which led me to the a215 model (looks much more like what I have), didn't remove the DVD drive as they said in that guide but didn't in the one I was originally following. Link to the guide for anyone else: http://www.irisvista.com/tech/laptops/toshiba-satellite-a215/disassemble-display-panel-1.htm

Now I'm winging it. The guide only goes up to the display... at least there's not much more to be done.

Update: got it. Those Toshiba techs were lying! They said you couldn't do it, but I assume they meant you shouldn't do it. Taking pics when reassembling so people will have a more thorough guide.
