Hey all, not sure if this is the right place to post this but it seemed the closest.

I have an Inspiron 1520 with a SEC3350 screen (1680x1050), and while I'm happy with most aspects of the screen, I find it very dim even at "max" brightness.

Using the FN key + arrow keys on most dells you can increase/decrease the brightness, when Quickset tells me I'm at max brightness, I'm far less than impressed with how dim it still is :p

So my question is - Is there a piece of software out there I can use to truly adjust the brightness of my LCD, or perhaps calibrate it in other ways to artificially increase the brightness?

    Thanks a lot!

Software cannot correct hardware problems. The backlight is only producing so much light. A program cannot magically make light appear. The WSXGA+ screen has 200 nits and is the dimmest of the screens for the 1520.

I didn't know it was a hardware issue, programs like PC Wizard report that (when set at max brightness) my LCD brightness is actually at 75%. That is the piece of information and assumption I went on when making this post.

Re: 75%. Try booting in Safe Mode and turning brightness up all the way. Dell QuickSet won't be running, so it won't be interfering, and you'll see how bright you can get without it (not that it was helping in the first place).

As the previous posters said, you can't increase brightness beyond what your LCD's backlight can support, but you may be able to adjust other settings. Play with NVIDIA's contrast and gamma controls, for example. Maybe it will get better...
