    i know the laptop was never shipped with this resolution. does that mean the video card simply wont be able to handle it? or will the screen connector be something other than 30pin?

    If you can find a compatible panel, the GPU will support it. The matter is finding the right backlight w/ connector (LED might not fit in CCFL backlit connections) and then the panel assembly itself.
