    Hi all,
I know this may be a little off topic but I think you guys should be able to help me. :D
I have a BenQ 17inch desktop LCD monitor, few days back, it started to screw up.
The monitor will light up for a short moment, like 5 secs when a signal is output to it. Then it will turn black. The LED indicator shows that there is still singal output.
When shining a strong touchlight on a screen, I can still see some text, so I suspect that its the backlight's problem.

I have confirmed that the problems lies in the monitor, not the cable or PC.

So can u guys pls help me confirm that its the backlight's probrlem? As I am planning to replace it myself. And btw, is DIY backlight replacement a good choice?

Thanks for reading my light-winded message :D

I had this same problem on my laptop. Either the inverter is busted and your backlights are okay or vice versa. Sometimes it might be better to just get another monitor though because backlights are kind of a pain in the *** to replace.

    Found this on google: inventgeek.com/projects/shorts/overview.aspx

    Often it is the inverter.
Maybe it is broken and has a short circuit. So when you turn on your LCD, the inverter works, but consumes way too much current, a fuse or other system then stops the inverter so that no other parts can get damage.

If it is the inverter then it is easy to repair, just buy one and replace it.

If you can still see a very dimm image after the screen went black, then it means the back-light is starting to die I'm afraid (given the fact it only goes out after the screen has been functioning for a period of time).

In any case, my advice would be to fix the back-light asap.

Well, thanks for the help people. :D
I think I have confrimed its not the backlights prob.
Its either the capacitors or the inverter.
And thanks andyasselin, you have been a great help.
(though I have to try to figure ur english :D)
