Hello all. I just bought a new ssd: eBay - New & used electronics, cars, apparel, collectibles, sporting goods & more at low prices
off ebay for my dell latitude d420. The d420 uses a pata zif drive with flat orange ribbon cable. The ssd is a pata zif drive but I did not see it pictured with the ribbon cable. Do all pata zif drives have a ribbon cable? Even if this drive does not have a ribbon cable, will it still work? Please help me, I have not made the payment yet.

Hmm, while my knowledge on SSD compatibility is only rudimentary, it appears that your laptop may be too old to benefit much for this type of upgrade.

Actually I've done my research and I would, because the defualt hard drive is an abysmal 4200 rpm drive. There are no 7200 rpm drives in 1.8" factor or more expensive that ssd, so I went with ssd.

You will possibly have to use the existing ribbon cable to fit to the new drive. But they should have pretty standard connections. The 1.8" ZIF PATA is a standardized form factor.
