http://tinyurl.com/jd5ee it's an ebay auction (expired by now, but there are loads of them...). I was just wondering is something like this effective in keeping my laptop's temperature down at a safe level? Or is it likely that something like this (no name brand, ebay purchase) will just putter out and die or be really loud and ineffective? If the latter is the case, can you suggest a better cooling pad for a Dell E1505? Oh, I guess I ought to ask, will that fit on an E1505? I don't have mine yet... it's currently in the 'boxing' stage in Dell's factory.

i think that was one of the ones i bought in the past. it didn't really work well, so i had to get another one...i think it is also a bit small for 15.4" notebooks. i would check your dimensions with the dimensions of the fan.

That was one cooler I had roughly a year ago and I would not recommend it. The entire unit is made out of plastic and the airflow wasn't that great. Did not help at all with cooling the laptop.

I would do some research and try to find one that is made mostly if not fully out of aluminum or similar. This will allow the transfer of heat away from the laptop instead of acting as an insulator.

I just got one recently by Titan, fully aluminum type material and has 3 adjustable fans built in. When I use it, its definetly noticeable that the temperatures drop compared to when I just have my laptop on the desk by itself. Just wish the fans had a higher max RPM.

The key moment with coolers, imo, is to get one which blows air to the laptop and not one which sucks air out of it. Those coolers which suck the hot air and blow it out would do with a laptop that has a constantly running fan.
