Is it worth moving from a 17.3" LG panel to a Hannstar or AUO one instead?

    Before worrying about image quality.....

    a) does it fit physically/mechanically?
    b) do the electrical signals match up and can you get the correct lvds cable?
    c) do the backlighting connections hook up (led or ccfl)?
    d) will the vbios in the gpu see the panel correctly?

yup, none of which tells me if you've verified the electrical/mechanical issues.

All you've done is to quote a few brand names for panels......

I'm sure that all three brands you've mentioned make crap panels as well as great ones.

AFAIK there has only been one wave of 17.3" LED backlit panels, all the generic types (eg not dell or apple) all share the same connector, so yes they are interchangeable.

So really I am asking those who have experience of the panels I am talking about as to the advantage of swapping to one of the more popular panel makers of this size.

So to those people, just talking about the size and brands in the title should be enough to determine exactly what I mean.

If you want to swap your 17.3" 1080p panel, look for the AUO B173HW01 V4 (the 90% gamut panel)

Is that the cream of the regular crop then?
