I'd recommend you just get a crucial or SanDisk SSD instead. The reviews are generally good because: 1. average users don't even realize they're seeing such high speeds due to Rapid using their RAM; 2. They write a review right after installing something, i.e. not long enough to experience the old data slow down issue; and 3. Any SSD seems amazing after coming from a HDD.

Get an SSD but not the 840 Evo... Something like the Sandisk Extreme Pro, Samsung 850 pro are much better choices.. Otherwise, if your budget is limited Sandisk Extreme II/Crucial MX100..

The SSD will become the bane of your existence, but for the good reasons. Once you get one, every computer without one will feel sluggish and unresponsive. It is one of the best upgrade you can get, but it will be hard not to have one afterwards. Once you get a SSD, you can never go back to having your OS and a HDD,

Yes, get an SSD. The Samsung 850 series is good.

SSDs are definitely worth it. Not just for laptops, but desktops as well. The I/O performance is just amazing compared to a HDD, and the only real failing of SSDs is the price per GB (HDDs are still the best for bulk storage).

    should i be getting the Samsung Evo 840 500GB - 230$
    or Crucial MX100 512GB - $199?

What is the more reliable drive?

You are likely to get very strong opinions from both sides of the aisle...

If it were my money, I'd go with a Crucial.

Btw, have you never seen an SSD in action? Youtube has lots of videos.

Always backup regularly to a HDD!!! And that's not anything against an SSD.

Everyone should perform regular backups to external storage, regardless of what drives are in their computer.

Once you use an SSD, you will never be able to use any system with an HDD, they are the most upgrade you'll notice in terms of a snappiness feel!

    Stay away from the EVO.

Get the Crucial MX100 it's the best bang fvor the buck.

EVOs are only good in Benchmarks but because they use crappy TLC NAND memory chips, I found that the MLC NAND based SSDs give you more consistent performance overtime.

Not saying the EVOs are bad, I just wouldn't ever touch and TLC based SSD after having owned 3 1TB 840 EVOs (sold them all)
