    Is it possible to upgrade the lcd on the Toshiba Qosmio X505-Q860

    from a 1680x945 to a 1920x1080 lcd?

    not sure about this particular model but I've changed my ASUS G71's default 1440x900 to a 1920x1200. It was not that difficult. I assume you can also have your local electrical/computer repaire store to do that for you with some small charge.

    in theory you can replace/swap screen. In practice there a few things to watch for:

    1- While some laptops can handle any screen others don't. For instance, with a Dell laptop you have to use a Dell part as a replacement screen . A screen made for another laptop won't work properly; for instance you won't be able to adjust the screen brightness. Other laptops will accept pretty much any screen. I had a Gateway laptop once. It had a 14.1 wide screen. I was able to test on it a 14.1 XGA, 15.1 XGA, 15.4 WXGA, and 17.1 WXGA screen.

    To maximize your chance use a panel from the same manufacturer as the original one.

    2- you might have to replace the display cable.
