    Hi all.
I have a Dell M6500 that came with an appalling 1440x900 resolution pannel, matte; the video card in it is a Quadro FX2800M - the display is quoted as LGD (DFP-0).

    Question
    - can I change this low resolution display for say a 1900x1080, matte?
    - I've seen LED and CCFL pannels, whatever those are, can someone tell me which one to get?

    Thanks all!

Yes, you can replace it. DON'T take resolutions lightly, this determines whether or not the panel is compatible. There are NO 1900x1080 panels, this is not a valid resolution. And, no 1080p panels are supported by your laptop because it is 16:10 aspect ratio. You can't use a 16:9 screen, so you have 1280x800, 1440x900, 1680x1050, and 1920x1200. The following will NOT work: 1366x768, 1600x900, 1920x1080.

As for CCFL vs LED, you are in a very unfortunate position. Laptops went from 16:10 to 16:9 right around the time they went from CCFL to LED. But, you don't have a 16:10 CCFL panel or a 16:9 LED panel, you need a 16:10 LED panel - one of the rarest combinations. 99% sure on this.

If it is CCFL, I can sell you a compatible panel. But I don't think it is.

Ahh... very informative and very good response ++ points.
Thank you very much, I'll do some more research and see if I can find a 16:10 LED and 1920x1200 pannel

If you don't have one of these, can you recommend a place where I can look? If you do have one, or can get it, I'll be willing to assume the risks after reasonable research that "this might or might not be the one you need" :)

    Thanks again a huge bunch!
