Thinking of ordering a dell Inspiron 14 for my dad. He's a lightweight user, web browsing, viewing some powerpoint files, pictures, youtube, printing, etc. The i3 setup costs about $70 more than the 6200 setup, which should I go with? Am hoping this is going to last him 3-5 years.

go with the i3 to future proof his web browsing for the next couple of years.

I'm assuming you are talking about the Pentium P6200? For 70 dollars, I would pull the trigger on the i3, it would be a better investment down the line. For 100+ I would shy away.

Replace all instances of future-proof with "longevity enhanced" ;)

    Intel Pentium P6200

If that's the processor, then it is basically the same as the Core i3 370M or 380M, but lower clock speeds and no HyperThreading. It even has the same 3MB cache.

If you really want to get something better than the P6200, then you should look at the "new" version of the Inspiron 14R that comes with Sandy Bridge CPUs. I see they start at $549 for a Core i3 2310M. It should be a hair better on battery and performance, plus a LOT better on the HD 3000 integrated graphics. Don't know how much the older Inspiron 14 with P6200 costs (I don't even see it listed, is it from Dell Outlet?) but $549 isn't that bad for a Sandy Bridge notebook.
