I'm aware of the performance hit this drive takes with slower than expected random 4K read/write speeds when paired with the PM55/HM55 chipsets but how does it fair when used with other chipsets? what are the acceptable 4K numbers for this particular drive? i've heard/read 20MB reads/60MB writes are where the 4K numbers should be...

the best 4K numbers i can achieve with this drive are reads in the low 20's and writes in the high 40's and i get the same results regardless if i use JJB's tweaks or no tweaks at all, any thoughts? thanks.

I haven't tried stamatisx's tweaks yet, if i recall correctly i remember reading that his tweaks disable turbo boost though i have yet to confirm this for myself so perhaps i'll give it a try.

Stamatisx's tweak did in fact disable my turbo boost, it didn't raise my read numbers any but it did manage to raise my write numbers about 4MB but giving up turbo boost is not a price i'm willing to pay for nominal gains in write speed.

both tweaks appear to max out the read times around 22-24MB's but where they really shine is improving the write times to 50MB+ i guess i'll just have to be happy with the 23/47MB 4k times i have and keep turbo boost intact, hopefully Intel can address this with a firmware update and/or make changes with the G3 which comes out in Q1 '11.

Its not the ssd thats the problem, its the intel 5 series chipset. A new driver release for that would be welcomed

I stand corrected, thanks for the clarification, to your knowledge is an updated driver in the works so these SSD's can perform to their full potential?

Agreed. Turbo boost makes for a very smooth experience when playing HD files and what not. When my turbo boost got disable, the playback of .m2ts files took a significant hit for me. :(

i would personally use JJB's tweak.. stanimax's tweak is good but not worth loosing turbo boost.. under load , both tweaks do just as well... i myself am using JJB's tweak..

To my very limited knowledge, no. There may be a driver update when the 6 series chipset is released, but doubt it.
What intel rapid storage drivers are you running?
10.0.0.1046 are the newest, and are WHQL certified, they have shown improvement for ssds for me and many others.

Hmmm, i'm running the 9.6.0.1014 driver, it's the most recent driver i seen on Intels website when i downloaded it, does the driver you noted offer any improvement for SSD performance?

I see it's WHQL certified but i wonder why Intel isn't making it available it on their website, i installed it anyway and it offered no improvement over my existing driver, it's as if my 4K read/writes are artificially capped @25/50MB's (along with every other PM55/HM55 owner).
