Trying to fix a dv6700z HP Pavillion laptop for a friend. It came with vista but was downgraded to XP. XP isnt supported officially by HP, but theres a few guides on getting it working like here: http://www.fastfs.com/help_pages/hp downgrade.htm

Everything works fine but the sound. I dont know if it ever has. Theres nothing about it in the BIOS. I see that you have to install the MS UAA driver before the conexant audio driver. All the info ive found says you install the UAA driver, in device list you see a entry for MS "Microsoft UAA Bus Driver for High Definition Audio".

No matter what I do, I cannot get that to show in the device list. I install it in fresh installs. sp2, or in sp3 where its supposedly included, ive tried all different versions and regedits. The install finishes (it didnt always, i found the registry that prevented it) and it looks like it worked...but you reboot and theres nothing in the device list, or any problem devices that could be it.

I tried using a linux boot disk and "lspci" which lists the PCI bus didnt see it either.

    So I have 2 questions:

If the hardware is defective/dead...will the UAA driver still load?
I can buy the motherboard add on board that has the audio jacks on ebay...is this the soundcard or is it just output/headphone jacks?
