Just got this laptop, wanting to max it out... Already pretty close.

    Current specs:
    Inspiron 9300
    17" WSGA 1400x900
    Pentium M 750 1.86ghz
    1.5gbs DDR2
    120gb 5400rpm PATA
    6800 Ultra

What's the best processor i can put in this? What's the largest 7200rpm PATA drive that'll work for this? Could get a 7800gtx correct? I'm assuming they installed the hacked bios to use this 6800 ultra? Not sure.

    Thanks

    Get a 200gb 7200 RPM on newegg.
I'd up your RAM, also on Newegg to 4gb...You can get the 7900gs or the 9750GTX as long as its the dell one...the processor though, youre kinda screwed... Pentium M 780 is the best you can do.

you cannot run a 200GB drive or 4 GBs of ram in a 9300.

do not post if you don't know the answer

Just checkin out an E1705... The laptop looks identical to my 9300, minus the media button above the keyboard... Would it be possible to take the internals from the E1705 and put in a 9300?

Most likely not, you cannot simply put a different laptop inside your laptop shell.

Nothing is going to line up or fit properly

I think... it actually might be possible, though improbable. The 9300 uses the same chassis as the 9400 which is the same as the e1705 so the motherboards should be very similar (albeit with a whole different slew of components) and possibly even compatible. If you look at these two ebay auctions:

    http://cgi.ebay.com/New-Dell-Inspir...ryZ60265QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
    http://cgi.ebay.com/New-Dell-Inspir...ryZ60265QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

You'll notice that the placement of all the sockets and connectors on both boards are nearly identical. The problem is that if you have just one connector that's shifted a little this way or a little that way, the swap isn't going to work. Anyways, it's not a good idea to try unless you're sure it will work.

Besides, if you're going to go so far as buy a new motherboard and all, you might as well buy a used e1705 which can go as low as $400 on ebay.
