Hi,
I've just got the above laptop. The laptop in it's self is fine.
What I've found though is about every 30 seconds the processor or what ever does something to show the 'egg timer' by the pointer arrow. It happens all the time the laptop is switched on.
Apart from needing all the power I've got because I do video work after a while it's very annoying.
Does anybody know what is causing this and how to turn what ever programme or what ever it is off?!
It's a dual 1.6 processor if thats of any help.

Try uninstall Google Toolbar & Desktop
http://www.sightsea.com/pghpchd/pages/google_tool_bar.html
This is what normally causes it, and the only solution is to remove it.

Alright thanks.
That makes sense.I couldn't put my finger on it, but I presumed it was some programme like that. -
Also, perhaps the indexing service of XP. Good idea to disable that anyway.
If it continues, do a C-A-D and look at the processes tab in task manager and see what is using CPU cycles. -
Sorry but what is a C-A-D?
Thanks. -
ctrl alt delete -- it brings up the task manager and shows you everything that is running on your laptop right now. You can also use ctrl+shift+esc, and it will bring up the same thing.
I'm betting that it is the google problem though. We've had several users complain about Dell doing this and it cuases thier pointer to turn into something else every few seconds. -
Thanks again!

I've never noticed this before...although maybe that's because I usually reformat my machines within a couple hours of them arriving.

Right Cheers people.
The problem is no more.
It was the Google toolbar thing.
Pain the arse.
My laptop does now seem faster,I've also taken alot of the other junk off as well like AOL e.t.c.
Can I ask why you reformat your new PC or whatever as soon as you get it? -
I reformat it as soon as I get it so I can be in charge of what programs are installed on my system. I hate having a bunch of useless prorgams and trials.

mZimm, i don't think you would have noticed it cause it seems to be a problem with the Insipirons, not the XPS or Latitudes. I might be wrong, but I know the latitudes come clean and thought that the XPS come clean (for the most part).
