I need a laptop to connect up to my home cinema amp via hdmi and cannot for the life of me find out if this laptop provides 5.1 or 7.1 audio via the HDMI output!
All it says is "HDMI for audio/video" and then separately it says "HD audio" can anyone advise?

    Thanks

most probably it has HDMI out... which supports both audio and video... the HD audio is most probably mentioning about the sound card or laptops internal speakers... whether the audio output is 5.1 or 7.1 i don't know... i hope that i cleared up some of ur doubts.

    PaulPaul,

Too many things have to come together to be able to give you a yes or no answer.

Assuming that the HDMI from the notebook is passing the full data possible, then it is up to your 'home cinema amp' to provide 5.1 or 7.1 audio.

Unless someone has this exact model notebook and your exact amp, no one will be able to tell you precisely. This is a cross your fingers and hope it works dilemma. ;)

This will depend on the version of HDMI the notebook's hardware supports, the software used to play back titles and decode them (or not) through the HDMI port and finally the version of HDMI (firmware) that the amp is running/expecting from a source input.

It also depends on the title being played. Not all titles are 5.1 or 7.1 audio output capable.

If this model seems like the best fit for your needs, except for this single question; what I would suggest is to purchase it from a no restocking fee store. If it works, great! If it doesn't return it and continue your search.

    Good luck.
